Restoration progress
Follow our journey as we work to bring Danish F Class no. 654 back into steam. Discover our current status, upcoming milestones, and how you can support this unique cross-European preservation effort based at the Nene Valley Railway in Wansford.

Current status in Neumünster
654 is currently stored in Neumünster, Germany, where it is being carefully looked after while awaiting transportation. Active restoration work will begin once the locomotive arrives at our base in Wansford, scheduled for 2027.

Next steps and boiler assessment
The immediate priority is completing the purchase and organising the road transport of no. 654 from Germany to England. Once on site in Wansford, our team will commence dismantling and preparing the boiler for a full professional inspection and assessment. This critical survey will define the complete scope of engineering works needed to return the locomotive to steam.

Getting involved and regular updates
We plan to post progress reports and behind-the-scenes engineering photos as regularly as possible. When the locomotive arrives, we will be actively seeking hands-on volunteers to help with the mechanical overhaul. In the meantime, you can make a huge impact today by contributing towards our transport and acquisition fund through our support page.
